Farewell to Harry Hockaday

FAREWELL TO HARRY HOCKADAY.
It was so pleasing to see so many members turn up for Harry Hockaday's final talk as he has sold his stud of budgerigars. It was a very sad occasion and was quite emotional, but he thought it was time to pack in as he thought it was now becoming a chore and spending 4hours a day every day of the year was becoming too much. He said it was not because of his love of wedding cake either, which got a good laugh from the audience.
He told the audience that he had proved to himself that it was a great idea to buy birds from the continent and put it to British birds where many members in the fancy thought it a bad idea with the thought of longflights. He said that he had never had a bird disqualified for being a long flight and showed his many best in shows over the last few years.
Old fanciers have said that once the budgie bug has bitten it wont go away and we at the NBS hope that Harry has another look at some budgies and has a change of heart because Harry is always welcome up North.
Jim Smith our president thanked Harry and told him he was welcome back any time to the NBS and thanked him for all his kindness and generosity to the fancy and had to say that he had given one of the best talks we have had and please if he gets sick of his American Silkies buy some more budgies.
