N.B.S. COUNCIL MEETING 18 th FEBRUARY 2019.  


   


Present.     D.Rowell, C.Wright, K.Featherstone, K.Kime, B.Ross, D.Cairns, A.Lovack, B.Batey, G.Clark, P.Watts.


                    I.Cooper, Ibsy, N.Phillips, K.Batey, P.Redford, D.Harrison, B.Close, R.Rogerson.

P.Watts, Chairman, welcomed the new Council and thanked them for attending.


              


Previous Minutes:                                                                                                                                                                                                             These had been circulated and were accepted as a true record.

Matters arising from minutes


1.  D.Rowell confirmed that he had  contacted G.Lanagan re his requirements for the Open Day.


     B.Batey and D.Rowell were to meet him and take care of him whilst at the Open Day.


2. D.Rowell advising Council that the Y.B.S. were unable to provide a panel for the August meeting.


3. B.Close asking about the N.B.S. judges nominations to the B.S. Club Show.


 


Correspondence.


1.   A message of thanks had been received from G.Findlay and N.Flavell re their Honorary Life Membership award.


 


Finance /Secretaries Report.


Classic Account.      6890.74       


Cash in hand.             402.21


          Total.              £ 7292.95.


 


New Members;


There were no new members.


  


Speakers for 2019.


After discussion it was agreed that we should include meetings for which birds could be included.


(April and October meetings)


Trophies would be awarded for these events.


After discussion it was agreed to monitor the level of support the April meeting received before deciding whether to continue with the October event.


A list of names was suggested for the secretary to seek a speaker for the August meeting.


 


Speakers 2020.


The following were suggested as speakers for 2020;


Jan - R.Simpson, Feb - A.G.M. March - Ian and Scott Ainley. April - Clubs Knockout Comp, May - Open Day, June - Phil


Reaney, July - Sp and Rare Show, August - Y.B.S. Club panel, September - T.B.A, October Clubs knockout Comp,


November - Auction, December - Alan Michael/John Newall.


 


Social Secretary Report.


K.Kime advised Council that tickets were now available for both the Open Day (£10) and the bus trip (£15)


Open Day;


The date would be Sunday 5th May 2019.


Speakers; G.Lanagan and K.Eatwell.


This was a ticket only event.


Bus trip 2019.  Sunday 23rd June.                                                                                                                                                                                                                  


There was a maximum of 25 tickets for the bus trip, visiting the aviaries of A and G. Adams and A.Young.


 


Bus Trip 2020.


After discussion the following names were suggested for 2020;


G.Bowley, J.Lees, S.Wildes.


 


K.Kime asked Council if the N.B.S. was to arrange a bus trip for the members to attend the B.S. Convention in 2020.


It was agreed that a price be obtained for a bus and reported back to Council.


No decision would be made until the final programme was known.


 


Auction.


Discussion took place as to the arrangements for the Auction.


Only birds/items relating to the hobby were to be asked for/donated, with members being asked to give one item for sale with the proceeds going to the N.B.S.


There would be a minimum price for the sale of birds.


 


Show Secretary Report.


Specialist and Rare Show 2019.


As a sign of respect the show was to be called The Roy Cooke Memorial Show.


B.Close gave an update for the show.


We would not be applying for Cage and Aviary Diplomas as no one seemed to want them.


The Honorarium paid to R.Cooke had been kindly donated towards the show/s.


There was also a donation from E.Freel family towards the show/s.


D.Cairns advised that the following judges had accepted;


G.Moore and A.Michael.


It was agreed that more effort should be made to increase the sale of refreshments/catering, and improving other areas of income.


The date would be Sunday 7th July 2019, (week no. 27)    


The dealer would be in attendance for bird sales.


 


Open Show 2019.


As a sign of respect the show was to be called the R.Cooke Memorial Show”.


B.Close gave an update for the show.


D.Cairns advised that the following judges had accepted;


G.Bowley, J.Lees, D.Cairns, J.Cosby.


The date was Sunday 15th September 2019. (week no 37)


The dealer would be in attendence for bird sales.


 


Patronage Secretaries Report.                                                                                                                                                                                      


J. Smith was unable to attend but it was reported that everything was in hand.


                                                                                                          Year Book. 2019.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       Full page £10, half page £5.


K. Featherstone and G.Clark would  be taking adverts for the Year Book.


Monies should be paid at the time of placing the advert.


B.Batey advised that the cut off date for the receipt of articles/reports would be the end of March.


 


Publicity  Report.


All Societies were reminded to submit their club information for inclusion on the web-site.

K.Kime reported everything was ok.

1.  D.Rowell - re N.B.S. judges names to B.S. Club Show.


It was agreed that D.Cairns would be nominated for 2020 and D.Herring for 2021.

2.  D.Rowell - confirming Garden Feathers sponsorship and attendance at shows and Open Day.


3.  B.Batey - advising that members should be contacted prior to advising they would be donating bird/prizes.


4.  D.Rowell - asking if anyone had contacted Colin Leask re attendance at Open Day.


 


Correspondence.


E-mail received from B.S, Steve Holland re mentoring scheme


It was agreed that we support the scheme but that we had not had much success with our own scheme previously.

The Secretary advised that we still needed to changeover the T.S.B. Shares and are still awaiting the final bank changeover.

There would be £5 prize money for each cc. (A/A and Y/B) awarded from the donated funds.


Any monies not paid out would be carried over to the Open Show.


Discussions on prize money took place and the Show Secretary would update the show schedule accordingly.


There would be free tea and bacon sandwiches for the stewards, others at a cost of £1.


A.Cairns would be making the judges and show secretaries meals.


D.Rowell agreed to do the pie and peas dinners.


Tea and biscuits would be available on the afternoon at a cost.

J.Smith had put in his apologies for the meeting but advised that we were still awaiting final details of patronage/s to be completed.

The secretary was asked to contact H.Hockaday to confirm his attendance at the September meeting.


N.Phillips asking that we recognize the support that J.Mason gave to the N.B.S. and to have this on the web-site and forward to the B.S.Bulletin.
